More Than a Store
There are moments when you realise that what you have built is no longer what you originally intended.
When EIGHT first opened its doors, it was meant to be a concept store. A place for carefully selected objects, independent brands, design, craftsmanship and aesthetics.
And for many years, that was enough.
Yet looking back, I realise that the products were never the most important part.
The most valuable thing that happened at EIGHT was always the conversations.
Over the years, people from completely different worlds found themselves sitting at the same table.
Entrepreneurs met artists.
Diplomats met founders.
Investors met designers.
Some came for a jacket, a notebook or a piece of art.
Many stayed for an unexpected conversation.
Warsaw has changed significantly over the last decade. The city became more international, more ambitious and more connected to the world. Along the way, EIGHT quietly evolved as well.
Without a grand strategy, it became something different.
A place where people could slow down.
A place where relationships could develop naturally.
A place where ideas were exchanged without the pressure of conferences, networking events or social media.
In a world increasingly dominated by algorithms, speed and constant visibility, I have come to appreciate something much older and much simpler.
Trust.
Trust is built slowly.
Through repeated encounters.
Through shared experiences.
Through conversations that happen away from cameras and microphones.
Perhaps this is why some of the most meaningful projects I have been involved in over recent years started here.
Not in meeting rooms.
Not at industry events.
But around a table at EIGHT.
Today, EIGHT continues to evolve.
It remains a place for design, culture and independent brands, but it is also becoming a home for new conversations.
Conversations about entrepreneurship, innovation, regional cooperation, defence, culture and the future of Central and Eastern Europe.
Not because these subjects belong together naturally.
But because the most interesting opportunities often emerge when different worlds collide.
Looking ahead, I am less interested in building a larger store.
I am more interested in building a stronger environment.
A place where thoughtful people can meet, exchange ideas and discover opportunities they were not actively searching for.
Because sometimes the most valuable things we find are not the things we came looking for.
And perhaps that has always been the real purpose of EIGHT.
